The AREA4HD International Festival is a first-of-its-kind initiative taking place in Florence, Italy, from June 1st to 6th, 2026.

The festival provides a unique international platform where art, science, and community converge and intersect to reframe the narrative of HD. The festival’s mission is to replace stigma with a culture of empathy and visibility by leveraging diverse artistic mediums – from photography to dance, modern art, documentaries, and much more.

By promoting public awareness and empathy, the event serves as an international platform where artists, medical professionals, and affected families collaborate through shared human experiences. The core objectives of the initiative are:

  • Raise Public Awareness: Engage the general public through highly visible civic actions (monument illumination) and cultural exhibitions.
  • Foster Global Connection: Link local experiences in Florence with international perspectives, reinforcing the idea of a “Global Human Community”. Several international artists, researchers, clinicians and persons impacted by HD will take part in the different events.
  • Art asAdvocacy: Leveraging diverse artistic mediums to give a voice to the unseen challenges of HD.
  • Integrating Science and Human Experience: the conference held at the hospital AOU Careggi, intends to create a meaningful meeting point, where local and international medical experts will present along with the experiences of other associations, families and artists collaborating with the associations. This ensures that scientific advancement goes hand-in-hand with greater public understanding and support.
